Every human being encounters a level of stress on a daily basis but the magnitude of stress and how you handle it is what differentiates the successes from the burnouts. And stress is not exclusive to any one group of people. Business owners, high school and college students, new mothers all experience different levels of stress. Let’s explore how to handle your stress and regain balance in your life.
1. Maximize Your Work Time
If you wish you had more time in the day to finish your to-do list, then you should work on your time management skills. We all have the same 24-hours in every day and it’s up to you to manage that time wisely. One simple solution: go unplugged for an hour and focus on one task. No phone calls, no checking weather, no social media, no emails. Choose the most difficult task first and get that off your to-do list. You might be surprised at how little time it took to complete that task and then you’ll feel motivated to do more. At the end of the hour, reward yourself with a short break, then go back into uninterrupted work mode.
2. Don’t Over Extend Yourself with Promises
Do you wake up with joy or dread? Are you excited to get back to work or would you rather ditch work and play hooky? Feelings of dread often occur when you keep saying, “Yes” to everyone without taking into account your own physical abilities. Of course, we want our clients to be happy but it’s impossible to please everyone and by saying, “yes” all the time, we risk our own happiness. Set boundaries with clients, set a refund policy for customers, and schedule some much-needed you time on your calendar.
3. Find Your Financial Sweet Spot… Create a Marketing Plan to Gain More Clients
Another area of business stress centers on finances and worrying if you’ll have enough paying clients to cover your bills. It’s a legitimate concern but if you strategize how to attract prospects on a continual basis, you’ll always have people in your sales funnel. What forms of marketing do you want to use? Which social media platforms? Where are your ideal prospects hanging around online? Utilize your free or inexpensive marketing avenues first before jumping into costly advertising campaigns. And if you’re inexperienced with social media or running a Facebook Ad campaign, outsource it or at least hire someone who can train you in the best practices.
4. Make Time For Yourself
Having a successful business should be every womenpreneurs goal, but if you’re sick all the time, always feeling tired or worse, starting to hear your spouse, children and friends say you never have time for them. That’s a red flag. What good is it to be successful and not have anyone to share it with. Make time for yourself… don’t neglect your relationships. Drink water, eat better, exercise. And for God sake, disconnect from business mode at least once a week and spend time with your loved ones. #GraceOverGrind
5. Put blinders on and stay focused
New business ideas, potential partnerships, must-have software, and a host of other distractions cross your desk each and every day. Learn to ignore the ones that won’t serve you well (and immediately) so you can concentrate on what is actually working.
Literally shut off the internet connection while you work, if you don’t actually need to access it specifically. Put your phone on an answering machine during business hours.
Do everything you can to protect yourself from your greatest enemies: Overwhelm and reactivity.
Overwhelm is really just distraction. Reactivity is really just a bad habit—and as we all know, habits are hard to break
